Ashburn Health Inspections: Okada, Frito Chicken, IHOP, Velocity

The Loudoun County Health Department recorded violations at several facilities around Ashburn during recent restaurant inspections.

ASHBURN, VA — Inspectors from the Loudoun County Health Department recorded violations at several facilities in the Ashburn area between June 29 and July 5.

Most COVID-19 restrictions around the state have relaxed, so health inspectors are returning to conduct some restaurant inspections in person. However, some visits, such as those for training purposes, can be conducted virtually.

Violations at restaurants typically focus on factors that can contribute to food contamination. The local health department can also perform a re-inspection to ensure that possible violations have been corrected.

For every observed violation, the inspector provides a specific corrective action that can be completed to rectify the violation. Sometimes these are simple, and violations can be corrected during the course of the inspection.

  • Olive Garden Restaurant, 45970 Waterview Plaza Sterling, VA 20166
    • Date inspected: June 29
    • Total violations: 2
      • Ice Used as Exterior Coolant, Prohibited as Ingredient. Observation: Ice used as a medium for cooling the exterior surfaces of a container of strawberries at the bar.
      • Observed: Quaternary ammonia test strips for testing sanitizer at 3 compartment sink observed to have an expiration date of January 2022.
  • Okada Japanese Restaurant & Bar, 20357 Exchange St Ashburn, VA 20147
    • Date inspected: June 29
    • Total violations: 6
      • Observed oysters in a plastic container in walk in cooler without shellstock tags.
      • Observed in ice machine one wall that ice was in contact with a black substance.
      • Observed ground pork 80F, bean sprouts 68F, cut cabbage 98F, and raw scrambled eggs 83F food items were being stored on counter. Cooked chicken 74F (top portion of prep cooler) all food items were at an improper cold holding temperatures.
      • Observed pork belly without date marking.
      • Observed a variety of food items being stored on the floor on the walk in cooler and freezer.
      • Observed in use utensils (rice scoop/ ice cream scoop) store in a container of water at 129F.

    • Date inspected: June 30
    • Total violations: 1
      • Reconstituted noodles were found stored in a plastic grocery bag.
  • Everbrook Academy, 21684 Romans Dr Ashburn, VA 20148
    • Date inspected: June 30
    • Total violations: 2
      • Observed washed apples in a bowl on top of 2 door reach in cooler under a vent uncovered.
      • Observed food employee with hair in a ponytail but hair was falling in her face, in turn, employee kept moving hair out of her face with her hands.
  • Velocity Five Sports Restaurant, 20789 Great Falls Plaza #162 Sterling, VA 20165
    • Date inspected: July 5
    • Total violations: 7
      • A plastic cup of water with no lid or straw was found stored with dry goods.
      • The deli slicer and food processor were observed stored with moderate food debris on them.
      • The dish machine at the bar is registering 0ppm sanitizer (Chlorine).
      • A container of Buffalo Chicken Dip with a prepared date of 6/25/22 was found in a reach in cooler, exceeding the 7 day period.
      • Upon review of the menu, EHS observed several items that are not marked with a consumer advisory.
      • Several spray bottles with unknown liquid were found without a label or identifying information.
      • Two boxes of raw chicken and a wire container of onions were found stored on the floor of the walk-in cooler.

    • Date inspected: July 5
    • Total violations: 2
      • A deli slicer was observed stored with food debris on its surface.
      • Sausage links on the line were found hot holding at improper temperature (110F)
  • Frito Chicken, 44650 Waxpool Rd #100 Ashburn, VA 20147
    • Date inspected: July 5
    • Total violations: 5
      • A person in charge was not present at the time of inspection.
      • Paper towels were not present at either hand sink.
      • Food in one-door stand up refrigerator at improper temperatures.
      • The nonfood contact surface of the hood over the oven has accumulations of dust, dirt, grease, and/or debris.
      • Plumbing under 3 compartment sink is starting to become backed up.
