Ashburn: Losing sleep can make you gain weight!

According to various university and research studies, if you snooze, you really do lose.

The average person needs seven to eight hours of sleep; if you get less, a hormone that regulates our appetite, leptin, is lessened.  In turn, we consume more, since leptin tells our brain when we have had enough (unless it is ice cream... then, all bets are off).

On the other hand, the hormone ghrelin stimulates hunger, and is increased if we are tired.

Makes sense to explain gorging when up late at night!
