Ashburn Motorcycle Rider Dies After Police Chase On Route 7
A 33-year-old man from Ashburn died after authorities said he crashed into state troopers while leading them on a chase on Route 7.
ASHBURN, VA — A motorcycle rider from Ashburn died after leading police on a chase on Route 7 on Friday, Virginia State Police said.
Authorities identified the motorcycle rider as 33-year-old Nicholas Thompson.
No other injuries were reported in the crash that fatally injured Thompson, according to the police report.

The chase began around 1:45 p.m. on Friday on Route 7 in Loudoun County. A state trooper said they saw a 2020 Suzuki GSX-R 750 motorcycle use a crossover intended for emergency vehicles.
"When the trooper activated his emergency lights to initiate a traffic stop, the motorcycle refused to stop and sped off at a high rate of speed," state police officials said in a news release.

The chase continued into Clarke County, where the motorcycle rider lost control, left the road, hit the guardrail, returned to the road, and collided with the state trooper's vehicle, authorities said.
First responders took the motorcycle rider to Winchester Hospital, where he died of his injuries. Investigators said he was wearing a helmet.
