Ashburn Schoolhouse To Look At History Of Segregated Education

ASHBURN, VA — The Historic Ashburn Colored School (HACS) is holding an event Feb. 29 for the public to learn more about the history of segregated education in Virginia. Speakers will include former HACS students as well as historians, educators and local leaders.

Loudoun County Board of Supervisors Chair Phyllis Randall will kick off the event with opening remarks. Wendi Manuel Scott, a professor of history at George Mason University, will give a keynote address at the event. A panel of local historians will provide perspectives on HACS.

The event, which runs from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. Feb. 29, will be held at the Loudoun School for Advanced Studies, a private secondary school, at 20577 Ashburn Road. Presentations will begin at 1 p.m. followed by a tour of the HACS at 3 p.m. Admission is free.
