Ashburn Woman Dies From Injuries In 2-Vehicle Crash: Police

An Ashburn woman died from injuries she sustained in a two-vehicle crash Monday at the intersection of Belmont Ridge Road and Hay Road.

ASHBURN, VA — An Ashburn woman died from injuries she sustained in a two-vehicle crash late Monday morning at the intersection of Belmont Ridge Road and Hay Road in Ashburn. Gail Appling, 47, was transported to Inova Loudoun Hospital where she died from her injuries, according to the Virginia State Police.

At around 11:50 a.m. Monday, Virginia State Police responded to the crash site. A 2018 Tesla Model X was traveling north on Belmont Ridge Road and a 2008 Mazda 3 was traveling east on Hay Rd. The two vehicles collided in the intersection that is controlled with a traffic light, the police said.

A passenger in Appling's car, Kendell Appling, 47, of Ashburn was transported to Reston Hospital for treatment of serious injuries.

The driver of the Tesla, Padmanabha Rajagopalan, 46, of Ashburn was uninjured. A juvenile passenger was transported for treatment of injuries from which they are expected to recover.
