Bazooka Ball Sports Opens in Ashburn

Looking for things to do with the kids over spring break? It's a good time to check out Bazooka Ball Sports in Ashburn, near Sport Bounce of Ashburn and Jumping Jack Sports.

Bazooka Ball, which opened Feb. 17, is Ashburn's newest entertainment spot for kids ages 6-16, offering a range of games and sports all at the same time.

One game called Aeroball involves trampolines and combines elements of volleyball and basketball. The game is played with two people, each trying to put a soft ball into a hoop at each end of the "court."

"It's a lot of fun," said owner Abdul Alqassab.

The facility’s namesake, Bazooka Ball, is played in an indoor glow-in-the-dark arena. Two teams compete and, much like laser-tag or paintball, each player wears a vest and has a bazooka cannon that shoots foam balls. The game lasts 20 minutes and players earn points for their teams by hitting another players' vest.

Created by a Canadian company, Bazooka Ball is currently offered in just a few locations in the United States. The Ashburn facility is the first in Virginia.

Anyone who needs a break or is waiting for a turn can check out the arcade area.

"So far, business is going well,” Alqassab said. “The weekends are busy and we are starting to book up birthday parties. People like new things and it is really fun, even for adults."

Bazooka Ball Sports offers birthday parties packages, Parents Night Out events and open gym time for kids to check it out. It will be open 10 a.m. - 10 p.m. during spring break.
