Could a Racing Team Be the Motivation You Need?

Community, structure and support are the main goals of BlackBench Fit's new program.

Looking for a running, swimming or biking partner for the next big race? BlackBench Fit is launching a racing team at 3 p.m. Saturday, April 6, for all fitness levels.

Training for a race can be lonely at times, especially when running or biking for miles on your own.

“The idea is to create a community of people who support one another and have fun,” said Lisa Allen, co-owner of BlackBench Fit.

Saturday’s kick-off celebration will start with a short introduction session led by BlackBench Fit Race Coach Matt Merz, followed by a group run and then happy hour at Lost Rhino.

Merz, a USAT Level I Certified Coach, has more than ten years of racing experience, including the completion of two Iron distance triathlons, 14 Iron distance races, four marathons and four Savageman competitions, according to the BlackBench Racing web page.

BBF owners and trainers Allen and Trish Drennan, both of Lansdowne, are also competitive racers and combined have completed more than 50 triathlons, marathons, long distance cycling races, adventure competitions and mid-and-short distance road races.

“Structure and support from an experienced team of professionals will help in the long run to achieve your personal best and set new personal goals,” Drennan said.
