Calendar Approved For 2023-2024 School Year In Loudoun County

LOUDOUN COUNTY, VA — At a meeting this week, the Loudoun County School Board approved a calendar for the 2023-2024 school year.

Next school year, classes will begin on Aug. 24 and end on June 14. There will be a total of 180 instructional days.

The proposed calendar, option 5, passed on a 6-3 vote. At-large member Denise Corbo,Blue Ridge representative Ian Serotkin, and Broad Run representative Tiffany Polifko voted against the proposal.

Polifko noted that she preferred a different calendar option that would have provided students with 1044 instructional hours. "However, I view option 5 as a close second and fully support its adoption," Polifko wrote on Facebook.

Here are the full dates to know for the 2023-2024 school year in Loudoun County:

• Wednesday, Aug. 16: Teachers report to work
• Thursday, Aug. 24: First day of school
• Friday, Sept. 1: Student holiday
• Monday, Sept. 4: Labor Day holiday
• Monday, Sept. 25: Yom Kippur holiday
• Monday, Oct. 9: Indigenous Peoples' Day holiday
• Monday, Oct. 30 and Tuesday, Oct. 31: Student holidays
• Tuesday, Nov. 7: Student holiday for Election Day
• Monday, Nov. 13: Diwali holiday
• Wednesday, Nov. 22 through Friday, Nov. 24: Thanksgiving break
• Thursday, Dec. 21 through Monday, Jan. 1: Winter break
• Tuesday, Jan. 2: Students return from Winter break.
• Monday, Jan. 15: Martin Luther King, Jr. holiday
