Car Stolen From Lot Of High School + Police, Power Company Scams: Loudoun Crime Report

LOUDOUN COUNTY, VA — A car was stolen from the parking lot of John Champe High School in Aldie on Thursday night, according to a report from the Loudoun County Sheriff's Office. Authorities are also investigating other incidents, including an assault at Royal Farms in Ashburn and a series of scams targeting Loudoun residents.

Between 7:30 and 8 p.m. on Thursday, Feb. 3, a car was stolen from the parking lot at John Champe High School, which is located on Sacred Mountain Street in Aldie. The complainant told police that her grey 2021 Mazda CXD5 was taken from the parking lot.

Authorities determined that some credit cards that were left in the vehicle were later used at different stores.

Elsewhere on Thursday evening, authorities received a report of an assault at the Royal Farms in Ashburn. An employee of the store told police that a customer assaulted him.

The employee said that the customer "became upset with him," and pushed him to the ground, according to the police report.

The suspect was described as a 30-year-old Hispanic man who is about 5 feet, 10 inches tall. At the time of the assault, he was wearing a light jean jacket and jeans, according to the police report.

The Loudoun County Sheriff's Office is also investigating a trio of scams that were reported on Thursday.

In Leesburg, a woman received a call from someone who claimed to work with the sheriff's office. The caller claimed that there was a summons for the woman, and she needed to pay authorities. The woman sent money through Zelle and Apple Pay before she realized it was a scam.

In Lovettsville, a victim received an email that appeared to be from PayPal. The resident called the number provided in the email, an unknown person advised him to provide his personal information for an online form and money would be deposited into his account. The suspect then instructed the victim to purchase gift cards and share the card numbers, which he did.

A third scam was reported in Chantilly on Thursday. A resident said he received a call from someone who claimed to be with the NOVEC power company. The caller said the resident's bill was past due. The caller instructed the victim to purchase a green dot card and share the numbers; the victim complied.
