STERLING, VA — Grandpa Hanks Jamaican Kitchen will be honoring Jamaican Independence Day next week with a special selection of family meals to celebrate the occasion.

Operated out of O’Malley’s Pub on Holiday Park Drive in Sterling, Grandpa Hanks is a ghost kitchen operation that does not have its own dining room or bar.

Chef Stephon Washington’s recipes honor his grandfather’s Jamaican traditions in the kitchen.

Each meal box from Aug. 4-8 will contain a hand-written card with instructions on how to make a Jamaican cocktail.

The first meal box serves up to four people at a price of $50. It comes with a whole chicken, two servings of sauteed cabbage, two servings of rice and beans, four beef patties, two cocoa breads, and four pineapple sodas.

The second meal box serves between four and six people at a price of $86. It comes with two oxtails, one whole chicken, two beef patties, four cocoa breads and four pineapple sodas.

The meal boxes are available only through Grandpa Hanks’ online distribution platforms, including Grubhub, Doordash and Ubereats.
