Carjacking With Hit-And-Run Kills Woman In Loudoun County, Suspect Arrested

STERLING, VA — A suspect has been arrested after a woman was killed in a carjacking with a hit-and-run in Sterling Sunday, according to the Loudoun County Sheriff's Office.

Around 11:39 p.m., sheriff's deputies responded to a carjacking in the 21000 block of Towncenter Plaza. Authorities said the victim and car owner, Melody Waldecker, 54, of Silver Spring, Maryland, was struck by the stolen vehicle as the suspect fled the scene. Waldecker was pronounced dead.

The suspect fled in the stolen vehicle. He was taken into custody around 12:17 p.m. after an extensive search. Jose Aguilar-Martinez, 21, of no fixed address who has been living in Sterling, was charged with carjacking. He was initially taken to the hospital for an unrelated health condition and was released Monday. He is being held without bond at the Loudoun County Adult Detention Center.

The investigation remains active. The sheriff's office expects more charges will be coming. The office thanked Fairfax County Police Department, Virginia State Police and residents for their assistance with the investigation.
