Chesterbrook Academy in Sterling Donates to School in Puerto Rico
Chesterbrook Academy students held a book drive to benefit Palermo Private School in San Juan and donated more than 100 books

Students at Chesterbrook Academy Elementary & Middle School in Sterling recently collected and packed four boxes containing more than 100 books to benefit students at Palermo Private School in San Juan, Puerto Rico, which was affected by Hurricane Maria. Students held the book drive from Oct. 14 through Nov. 21 and collected new and gently used books. Some of Chesterbrook Academy’s fifth, sixth and seventh graders also wrote letters in Spanish to send with the books, letting Palermo students know they are thinking of them. Chesterbrook Academy is hoping to establish an ongoing partnership with Palermo to potentially include establishing pen pals, completing virtual classes and projects, and coordinating future donation drives for items Palermo needs. Through this initiative, students learned the importance of helping others.
