Coalition Warns Of Groundwater Loss In Loudon: Report
The Loudoun County Preservation and Conservation Coalition has launched a series of presentations to inform the public on groundwater loss.
ASHBURN, VA — Residents of western Loudoun County were warned that their region’s shallow aquifer is being overtaxed at a recent presentation organized by a coalition of conservation groups, the Loudoun Times-Mirror reports.
At the April 6 meeting at Woodgrove High School in Purcellville, the Loudoun County Preservation and Conservation Coalition discussed its August 2025 report, which found that “Groundwater conditions in Loudoun County have significantly worsened over the past several decades.” The report concluded that groundwater as a water supply is no longer sustainable, due to a combination of factors including changes in land use, increased residential development, and drought.
The coalition hopes to engage residents in water conservation and in pressuring the state and county governments to take action. Two more similar presentations are planned.
