Ashburn, Sterling Men Charged In Crash, Attempted Car Theft: Sheriff

Men from Ashburn and Sterling face charges after Loudoun County authorities said they fled a crash and then tried to steal a car.

ASHBURN, VA — Suspects in a hit-and-run crash were arrested after authorities said they tried to steal a car, according to a Loudoun County Sheriff's office report.

The crash was reported about 9 a.m. Sunday at West Laurel Avenue and North Amelia Street in Sterling. A driver told officers the striking vehicle fled the scene.

While deputies were at the accident scene, a report came in about two people who had taken a neighbor’s vehicle and were attempting to leave.

Deputies arrested Rafael Mejia Lopez, 32, of Ashburn, and charged him with grand larceny, police said.

David Reyes Perla, 36, of Sterling, was arrested and charged with hit and run.

The sheriff's office said both Mejia Lopez and Reyes Perla are being held without bond at the Loudoun County Adult Detention Center.
