Developer Plans To Bring Indoor Skydiving Center to Ashburn: Media Report

The new iFly would be part of the Commonwealth Center office complex.

The developer of an office complex on Route 7 is hoping to bring the region’s first indoor skydiving center to the 205-acre site, according to a media report.

The Peterson Cos. is applying for permission from Loudoun County to open a 5,000-square-foot iFLY at the Commonwealth Center, the Washington Business Journal reported. The center is at the intersection of Route 7 and the Loudoun County Parkway.

The Austin, Texas-based iFly company would operate the 67-foot-tall facility, which would have a vertical wind tunnel that creates “an indoor skydiving experience,” the company’s CEO said. There are 37 iFLY wind tunnels operating in a dozen countries.

A Peterson Cos. executive said the company hopes the arrival of iFly and TopGolf, a 13-acre driving range with a bar and restaurant, at the Commonwealth Center can stimulate the creation of an entertainment district in Ashburn and the Route 7 corridor. TopGolf is scheduled to open in August.
