Dolley, Loudoun County’s Fire Dog, Gets Her Own Book
Dolley, who works with the Loudoun County Fire and Rescue Department, is featured in a new National Geographic Books series.

ASHBURN, VA — Dolley the Fire Dog received some well-deserved recognition this week with the release of the new National Geographic Books series, “Doggy Defenders.” Dolley, who works with the Loudoun County Fire and Rescue Department, is featured in her own book titled, “Dolley the Fire Dog.”
The book follows a day in the life of Dolley, a labrador retriever, and her handler, Capt. Bud Herndon. Dolley’s role with the fire department is to help firefighters figure out what started a blaze. She does this by sniffing out flammable items and chemicals. Dolley also helps firefighters teach kids about fire safety.
Firefighters announced Dolley's honor on July 1.
