Don't get stuck with a flat: Changing a tire is simple

There are a few eventualities that we hope never happen: being stranded in an airport, losing your way, getting audited—and getting stuck with a flat tire. In the back of our minds, we know that it’s all possible, but if it were ever to happen, we wouldn’t know exactly what to do.

Let’s say you’re outside Leesburg on Harry Byrd Highway. You get a flat. There’s no cell service, and no one’s stopping to help you. There’s not much you can do, if you don’t know how to fix the flat yourself.

I certainly didn’t know until recently how to change a tire, (and I still don’t know how to change my oil or check any gauges, but that’s a story for another time). Unfortunately, even though women drive as much as men, parents teach their daughters mechanical skills less frequently than they do for their sons.
