Driver Dies in Crash After Fleeing Traffic Stop: LCSO

The Loudoun County Sheriff’s Office is investigating a single vehicle fatal crash that occurred after the driver attempted to flee the scene of a traffic stop early Sunday morning in Sterling, Virginia. The crash took the life of the driver and seriously injured a passenger.

Around 12:40 a.m. on November 22, 2015, a Loudoun Sheriff’s Deputy on patrol observed a driver traveling on E. Beech Road in the area of Rector Street with the vehicles headlights off. The deputy initiated a traffic stop and the driver started to pull over before driving away. The deputy continued the traffic stop and the driver again started to pull over before driving away at a high rate of speed.

The deputy lost sight of the vehicle after initiating a pursuit and came upon the crashed vehicle in the area of E. Beech Road and N. Argonne Avenue. The driver crashed into a parked vehicle which pushed that vehicle into two other parked vehicles. The course of the traffic stop lasted less than one minute before the crash occurred.

The driver lost his life at the scene. The passenger was airlifted to Inova Fairfax Hospital with serious but non-life-threatening injuries.

The name of the driver has not been released and is pending positive identification.

The crash remains under investigation by the Loudoun County Sheriff’s Office Crash Reconstruction Unit.
