LEESBURG, VA—A drunk man punched a cop after pushing him to the ground and then fled before being found in a nearby shed hiding under a cardboard box early Sunday in the 17300 block of Dry Mill Road, according to the Loudoun County Sheriff's Office.
Shawn C. Hitteman, 43, of Ashburn, was charged with felonious assault on law enforcement, resisting arrest, attempting to disarm a law enforcement officer, trespassing, possession of marijuana and public intoxication. He also has outstanding warrants in Fairfax County and is being held without bond.
Shortly after midnight, a deputy saw Hitteman in the road at the aforementioned location and was getting ready to arrest him for being drunk in public. But then Hitteman charged the deputy and both men fell to the ground, after which Hitteman punched him.

After a struggle, Hitteman ran into the woods as the deputy gave chase. He was soon joined by Virginia State Police, a Fairfax County Police helicopter and a LCSO K-9 team. Hitteman was found hiding inside a shed but didn't obey demands to surrender. So police sicced a K-9 on him, and he was hiding under a cardboard box.
The deputy was briefly hospitalized with minor injuries. Hitteman also was hospitalized with non-life-threatening injuries and released Monday.
