A beloved story enjoyed across generations, “The Wizard of Oz” is a musical based on the 1939 film The Wizard of Oz, with a script cleverly adapted by John Kane. Eagle Ridge Middle School has special permission and its license from Tams Witmark to present this production.

The Wizard of Oz” is a story of Dorothy Gale who is swept away in a tornado from a farm in Kansas to a magical Land of Oz. Dorothy embarks on a quest with her new friends to see the Wizard who can help her return home in Kansas and help her friends as well. Lessons of courage, friendship and imagination are emphasized throughout the production as Dorothy finds the means of returning home have been inside of her all the time.

The Eagle Ridge production of the show closely follows the movie version and at 2 hours in length. The show features 138 students who run the full production, from the technical aspects of set creation, lighting and sound to a cast of 80 students performing in eye-popping, colorful costumes rented from Main Street Theatre Company of Round Hill, VA.

"This year’s show is a magical rendition of a beloved classic that never goes out of style,” said Eagle Ridge Director Beverly Pruzina. “These amazing kids will show the community that middle school children (ages 11-14) can bring to life one of the most beloved musicals of all time. You won’t want to miss it!”

“I believe being involved in theatre allows students to see their potential beyond where they are currently in middle school. It allows them to practice being public speakers, advocates, and individuals who can clearly articulate their thoughts in a respectful way,” added Pruzina. “It is my hope that our students will use what they’ve learned through this production and apply it to their everyday lives.”

All ticket proceeds go to supporting the school’s Drama Club.
