LOUDOUN COUNTY, VA — A former Washington Commanders player, Deshazor Everett, pleaded guilty on Tuesday to a reckless driving charge in connection with the crash that killed his girlfriend, a report said.

Everett was originally charged with involuntary manslaughter after the fatal crash in Loudoun County in December.

Olivia Peters, who was dating Everett at the time, died at a hospital after the crash on Gumspring Road on Dec. 23, 2021.

Everett is currently released on bail. His sentencing is set for Sept. 8, according to court records. Based on Virginia's sentencing guidelines, Everett could face up to a year in prison and a $2,500 fine.

Loudoun County prosecutors said Peters' family supported the reduced reckless driving charge for Everett, according to WTOP. One prosecutor, Christina Brady, said Peters' family considered what their daughter would have wanted in a sentence.

Authorities said Everett was driving a 2010 Nissan GT-R on Gum Spring Road near Ticonderoga Road around 9:15 p.m. on Dec. 23, 2021. Investigators claimed that Everett was traveling at speeds of more than 90 miles per hour; the speed limit is 45 miles per hour in that section of Gum Spring Road.

The Loudoun County Sheriff's Office reported that alcohol and drugs were not factors in the crash.

Everett's attorney and county prosecutors asked District Judge Deborah Walsh to move the sentencing to March 2023, WTOP reported. The later date would have made it easier for character witnesses to testify, since many of them are busy with the football season during the fall. Walsh denied the idea and kept the sentencing scheduled for September.

The Washington Commanders released Everett in March. He is currently a free agent.
