Fare Steals Taxi, Then Returns It In Sterling: Police

Passengers stole a taxi in Sterling but then returned it before police arrived, according to the Loudoun County Sheriff's Office.

STERLING, VA — Sometimes something happens that makes you shake your head and wonder what the heck just happened. Well, such an incident went down early Tuesday in the 800 block of West Maple Avenue, according to the Stafford County Sheriff's Office.

Shortly after 12:30 a.m., police responded to the scene for a report of an auto theft. Seems a taxi driver took picked up a fare and took the passengers to the aforementioned location. Instead of paying him, they stole his cab. But before police arrived, for whatever reason, they returned the taxi and then fled on foot. Police continue to investigate.
