Fatal Crash In Fauquier County Leads To Charges For Gainesville Man: Police
A man from Gainesville faces DUI and manslaughter charges after a fatal car crash in Fauquier County on Thursday evening, police said.
VIRGINIA — A man from Gainesville faces DUI and manslaughter charges after a fatal car crash in Fauquier County, Virginia State Police said. State police officials identified the man as Kevin Hagan, a 67-year-old man.
The crash occurred around 8 p.m. on Thursday, March 24. Virginia State Police said the cars were travelling along Route 17, just south of Route 688.
Hagan was driving southbound in his 2014 Ford C-Max. He attempted to pass another vehicle, crossed the center line, and collided head-on with a northbound Ford Taurus, Virginia State Police said in a report.

Hagan suffered minor injuries and received treatment at the scene, authorities said.
Police identified the driver of the Ford Taurus as Daniel Shomette. Police said he died at the scene as a result of his injuries. Investigators believe he was not wearing a seatbelt.

Marcella Shomette was a passenger in the Ford Taurus. She suffered life-threatening injuries in the crash, Virginia State Police said. She was wearing a seatbelt.
Authorities charged Hagan with driving under the influence, involuntary manslaughter, and improper passing. He is being held without bond at the Fauquier Adult Detention Center.
