A quick response Tuesday by Loudoun County firefighters is credited with preventing an automobile fire from spreading into an Ashburn home.
At about 5 p.m., fire and rescue units were dispatched to the 22000 block of Fairlawn Drive for a reported house fire, according to a statement from the Loudoun County government.
Firefighters arrived on the scene to find a vehicle on fire inside the garage of a three-story, single-family home. They quickly extinguished the fire, preventing it from breaching the walls and moving inside the house, the statement said.
The Loudoun County Fire Marshal’s Office estimated the damages at about $5,000 and has determined the cause of the fire to be accidental in nature, resulting from a mechanical failure in the vehicle, according to the statement.
Once the fire was out, fire and rescue crews ventilated the house to minimize any smoke damage and assisted with cleanup. There were no reported injuries to civilians or fire department personnel, the statement said. The residents were not displaced and required no additional assistance from emergency personnel.
