Youth-Led “Walking For Water” Event Returns to Leesburg May 30 at Morven Park Local students lead global impact, helping bring over 55+ water wells to communities in need
LEESBURG, VA — May 30, 2026 — On Friday morning at 8:30 AM, the fields of Morven Park will fill with students, families, and community members taking meaningful steps toward solving one of the world’s most urgent challenges: access to clean water.
Walking For Water, a youth-led initiative of Wisdom Spring, invites the public to participate in this annual community event that raises awareness and funds for clean water projects in Africa and India.
For many around the world, walking miles each day to collect water is a daily reality. This event offers participants a chance to experience a small glimpse of that journey—while supporting real solutions led by youth.
For more than 20 years, students across Loudoun County, including Tuscarora, Heritage, Dominion, Stone Bridge, and Independence High Schools, have organized and led Walking For Water events. Their efforts have helped fund over 60 water wells, providing clean water access, supporting education for girls, and strengthening communities globally.
“This event is about more than awareness—it’s about action,” said Susan Hough, co-founder of Wisdom Spring. “These young people are stepping into leadership and showing what’s possible when compassion meets commitment. They are creating real change in the world.”
The event will bring together people of all ages to walk in solidarity, celebrate youth leadership, and contribute to a growing global impact. Families, students, and local supporters are encouraged to attend.

Youth-Led Walking For Water Event Returns to Leesburg May 30 at Morven Park

Purcellville, VA — Residents opposing the proposed Valley Commerce Center rezoning application are being urged to attend the Loudoun County Board of Supervisors Business Meeting on Tuesday, June 2, 2026, at 4:00 PM at the Loudoun County Government Center, 1 Harrison St. SE, Leesburg, VA 20175.
The June 2nd meeting is expected to be the final opportunity for residents to publicly speak before the Board of Supervisors votes on the controversial rezoning application. Opponents say the proposed industrial development conflicts with the Loudoun County Comprehensive Plan and threatens the rural character of Western Loudoun County.
The proposed Valley Commerce Center would allow approximately one million square feet of industrial development in Western Loudoun County and would be serviced by well water, raising concerns among residents about potential impacts on groundwater resources and nearby private wells.
Community members believe the upcoming vote could be extremely close and are encouraging residents throughout Loudoun County to attend and make their voices heard.
Particular attention is being focused on Catoctin District Supervisor Caleb A. Kershner, whose vote is viewed as critical to the outcome. Residents note that, historically, many members of the Board of Supervisors give significant weight to the position of the Supervisor representing the district directly affected by a rezoning application. Because the Valley Commerce Center proposal is located in the Catoctin District, opponents believe Supervisor Kershner’s leadership on this issue could heavily influence the final vote.
“This may be the last chance for residents to stand up and defend the integrity of Western Loudoun and the Comprehensive Plan,” said community advocate Daniel Carvill. “The Board should not reward speculative industrial rezoning efforts that attempt to bypass the intent of the Loudoun County Comprehensive Plan. Western Loudoun’s rural communities were never intended to become targets for large-scale industrial expansion simply because land may be less expensive. We need residents to show up, speak out, and remind the Board that the Comprehensive Plan exists to guide responsible growth, preserve rural character, and protect our communities from inappropriate industrial development.”
Residents who cannot attend the meeting in person are encouraged to immediately contact Catoctin District Supervisor Caleb A. Kershner and respectfully ask him to uphold the integrity of the Loudoun County Comprehensive Plan by opposing the Valley Commerce Center rezoning application.

Opponents argue that approving the Valley Commerce Center rezoning application would set a dangerous precedent for future industrial encroachment into Western Loudoun County and undermine years of planning intended to preserve the area’s rural heritage, environment, and quality of life.
