Foodies Unite: Loudoun Men Are Cooking!

On Saturday, October 4, 2014 at the National Conference Center, two renown service organizations (Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Incorporated, Psi Rho Omega Chapter and Omega Psi Phi Fraternity, Incorporated, Sigma Mu Mu Chapter ) will come together to host the first Loudoun Men Are Cooking event in Leesburg, Virginia. This premier event will raise funds for the Operation Uplift Foundation, a 501(c)3 nonprofit that provides educational support to the diverse population of underprivileged students in Virginia.

At the event, professional and amateur chefs will prepare gourmet fare to delight the palates of over 500 guests. Loudoun Men Are Cooking guests will sample bold, creative appetizers, sides, entrees, desserts, while enjoying the melodic sounds of the popular soul group Just’s Friends. Celebrity judges and culinary leaders will judge the amateur round. While offering up their signature dishes, the professional chefs will share some of their kitchen secrets and cooking tips. Local businesses are also joining us at the table! To help “Cultivate a Future of Excellence”, several small businesses and corporations in Loudoun County are donating culinary-inspired and unique cultural opportunities for purchase during the silent auction.

The Operation Uplift Foundation is striving to become Loudoun County’s premier scholarship foundation. Its mission is to enhance the growth, development, and education of local youth by obtaining, managing, and directing resources to aid them. The Foundation believes that a future of excellence begins with establishing critical partnerships within the community. These partnerships include corporate, community, and individual leaders who share the desire to see both high-performing and under-represented youths obtain access to opportunities for higher learning. Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc. and Omega Psi Phi Fraternity, Inc. both share this dream for kids in need in Loudoun County and in communities around the globe.

The Loudoun Men Are Cooking event extends the vision of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Incorporated by cultivating and encouraging high scholastic achievement through leadership development, educational enrichment, civic engagement, and character building in young women. The Sorority highlights this vision in its 2014-2018 program initiatives, specifically, its Educational Enrichment target. This special fundraising event follows the internationally mandated programs of Omega Psi Phi Fraternity, Incorporated, specifically its Scholarship program, which provide financial assistance to students.
