LOUDOUN COUNTY, VA — A former Loudoun County deputy pleaded guilty to using a communications system to solicit a minor this week. The man, Dustin Amos of Herndon, was accused of having sexual conversations with a detective posing as a 15-year-old girl.

A circuit judge accepted Amos's plea, Virginia Attorney General Jason Miyares announced the conviction on Thursday.

"Sexual predators who victimize children must be prosecuted to the fullest extent of the law," Miyares said in a news release. "I am grateful that law enforcement was able to catch this individual and my office was able to successfully prosecute before he physically acted on his despicable behavior."

They said that Amos used "Whisper," an anonymous social media app, to talk to an undercover detective. The detective told Amos that she was a 15-year-old girl, according to authorities.

In court, Amos admitted to discussing sexual acts he wanted to perform with the girl. He also sent photos of himself in uniform while he worked as a deputy at the Loudoun County Adult Detention Center.

Amos's sentencing is scheduled for June 13. Amos faces a maximum sentence of 10 years in prison. After he is released, he will have to register as a sex offender.

Amos was still employed by the Loudoun County Sheriff's Office when he was arrested in December. The sheriff's office initially placed him on administrative leave. He had worked with the sheriff's office since 2013.
