History of Messaging

Texting may look dated now, but it's high tech compared to these old forms of communication.

Text messaging has been around since 1985, but the history of messaging is much more complex. For centuries, the fastest way to communicate was through smoke signals, which could relay messages for hundreds of miles. Only until the late 1800s did the Pony Express make delivery of messages by horse economical. With the development of the telegraph, messaging became digital and technology improved from there. Now, right here in Ashburn, is the Network exchange, enabling internet traffic across of all of North America.
