Dominion Christian School Opening in Eastern Loudoun County 2019

Dominion Christian School, a classical K-12 college-preparatory school, announces plans to open a new lower school campus in Loudoun

Reston, VA., - Dominion Christian School, a 22-year-old independent classical K-12 college-preparatory school with campuses in Oakton and Reston, announced today that it will expand and is recruiting kindergarten to second grade students for a new lower school campus in Eastern Loudoun with an anticipated start date in the fall of 2019. Dominion intends to create an additional grade per year until the school offers all lower school grades (K-6). More grades may be added for 2019 pending additional interest from families in the area.

The new Eastern Loudoun campus will continue to emphasize the hallmarks for which Dominion has become known: intimate community; outstanding academics; Great Books and inclusion of true, good, and beautiful works of literature, art, music, history, theology, science, and math; use of the time-tested classical model for education; emphasis upon virtue and faith formation; and rich classroom discussions.

The strategic expansion to Loudoun County resulted from a thorough planning process that involved market research, community input, parental involvement, and consultation with churches and school directors in the area.

“Relative to other areas and to the size of the population, Loudoun County has few independent and faith-based schooling options,” noted Matt Mitchell, Head of School. “Classical schooling is the fastest-growing educational paradigm in the country—a model that we are excited to offer to Eastern Loudoun and surrounding communities as an extension of our already-established college preparatory school in neighboring Fairfax County. Dominion also offers an existing middle and upper school program in Reston, which provides reasonable proximity for Eastern Loudoun residents who are seeking a K-12 classical school experience,” he added.

About Dominion Christian School

Serving Northern Virginia for more than 22 years, Dominion provides a comprehensive K-12 classical Christian college-preparatory program. From mummifying chickens in second grade to a Barbarian (student) invasion in fifth grade, to participation in Harkness-style roundtable conversations about Plato, Homer, Augustine, Herodotus, and the founding documents of the United States in the middle and upper school years, Dominion is a place that makes learning rich, engaging, and memorable.

Classical education’s holistic approach emphasizes formation, Great Books in the Western tradition, and teaching through the Trivium, a developmentally-sensitive approach to learning that includes formal instruction in grammar (knowledge, facts, and information), logic (the art of argumentation), and rhetoric (the art of writing and oration).

Dominion students routinely score significantly higher on standardized tests than some of the best college-preparatory schools in the country, and Dominion’s average high school SAT score is significantly higher than the independent school national averages as well as the Loudoun County Public School averages.
