Involuntary Manslaughter: Food Truck Driver Charged In Crash

The driver of a food truck that crashed into a car and killed an Ashburn woman near Leesburg has been charged with involuntary manslaughter.

LOUDOUN COUNTY, VA — The driver of a food truck that ran a stop sign a crashed into a vehicle two months ago and killed an Ashburn woman near Leesburg has been charged with involuntary manslaughter by a Loudoun County grand jury. Tony Steven Dane, 56, also faces charges of reckless driving, driving without a license and insurance, and not having had the truck inspected.

Killed in the Sept. 8 incident was Erin Kaplan, 39, of Ashburn. Her son, her two daughters and her mother also were seriously injured. A GoFundMe page has been set up for the family.

Shortly before 5 p.m., the driver of a 2000 Thomas bus that had been converted into a food truck was headed east on Watson Road before running a stop sign and slamming into a 2014 Audi station wagon that was headed north on Evergreen Mill Road. The driver of the food truck and two juvenile passengers were taken to a local hospital for treatment of minor injuries.
