Loudoun Assistant Fire Chief Appointed To VA Fire Services Board

LOUDOUN COUNTY, VA — Todd Lupton, Loudoun County Combined Fire and Rescue System assistant chief, has been appointed to the Virginia Fire Services Board by Gov. Abigail Spanberger.

Lupton was named to a four-year term on the 15-member board, which helps oversee the Virginia Department of Fire Programs and advises the state on fire prevention, firefighter training and emergency services policy.

Lupton has more than 29 years of fire and rescue experience.

"Today, I am appointing Virginians who share my commitment to serving the people of the Commonwealth," Spanberger said in announcing the appointments. "Together, these leaders will strengthen our communities, enhance the essential public services Virginians count on, and support our economy."

Under Virginia law, the Fire Services Board evaluates statewide fire prevention and protection programs, recommends improvements and oversees grant programs for eligible fire departments and local governments. The board also works with the Virginia Department of Fire Programs to conduct studies to improve local fire and emergency services.

Lupton joined Loudoun County in 2022 after serving with the Warren County, Manassas Park and Manassas fire departments. He holds a bachelor's degree in fire service administration from Waldorf College and an associate degree in EMS technology from Northern Virginia Community College.

Loudoun County Systemwide Fire Chief James Williams said Lupton's appointment will ensure the county has a voice in statewide firefighting policy and proposed changes to the Virginia Statewide Fire Prevention Code.

In addition to his new appointment, Lupton will continue serving as Division 7 vice president of the Virginia Fire Chiefs Association.
