Loudoun Co. Schools Decide On Classes For Jan. 29
Snow and cold temperatures have forced Loudoun County Public Schools to change the schedule for Thursday, Jan. 29.
ASHBURN, VA — Due to continued icy road conditions in parts of the county, Loudoun County Public Schools will remain closed for students on Thursday, Jan. 29, the district said. All activities on school campuses are canceled.
Thursday will be a dedicated teacher workday. Teachers will receive additional details from their supervisors regarding expectations and how to best leverage the day.
Buildings and administrative offices will open at 10 a.m. The budget hearing scheduled for 4:30 p.m. will take place.

As officials continue to monitor weather conditions and the potential for additional inclement weather in the coming days, LCPS is exploring virtual learning options to ensure continuity of learning for all students, a statement said. Any virtual learning would be asynchronous, allowing flexibility for students and staff while helping to minimize any connectivity and access challenges.
"We appreciate your continued patience and partnership as we prioritize safety and work to ensure learning continues," the district said.

School Cancellation Process
The LCPS superintendent, or designee, will determine when schools and administrative offices observe a delayed opening, closing or early release in emergency situations, based upon the recommendation from the Chief Operations Officer.
The Chief Operations Officer will obtain information from the LCPS directors of Transportation and Facilities Services, as well as staff from the LCPS Division of Safety and Security, local utility companies and other appropriate sources, prior to making a recommendation for delayed opening, closing or early release of schools. A decision will be made as early as possible in order to ensure the safety of LCPS students and staff while providing timely notification to parents and staff.
How are school cancellations communicated?
Weather-related closing and delay messages are sent division-wide notifying parents that schools will be closed or operating on a delay due to inclement weather.
Information will be posted on the LCPS website, and on the school division’s Facebook, X and Instagram feed (@LCPSOfficial).
