Loudoun County Substitute Teacher Had 'Kill List': Report

The Loudoun County sheriff has provided more details on the arrest April 20.

ASHBURN, VA – Loudoun County Sheriff Michael Chapman gave an update on the arrest of a 19-year-old substitute teacher in the county earlier this month, saying the teacher had a “kill list” and planned to “shoot up the school."

Hadyn Dollery, 19, of Chantilly, was arrested on April 20 and charged with threats of bodily injury after allegedly making online statements threatening violence at John Champe High School.

Speaking to WJLA on April 27, Chapman confirmed that police had been alerted to the threat by a tip submitted to the county’s longstanding anonymous app, Safe2Talk, through which people can report threats to schools.

Chapman also said that the county’s substitute teacher hiring practices concerned police. In particular, he said, police believe that using 18 or 19-year-olds with a minimum of a high school diploma as unregistered substitutes could pose a security threat. Chapman said the force had raised the issue with one member of the county school board and intended to continue to press it.

Dollery had not been working at John Champe High School, however. It's unclear where they had worked as a substitute teacher.
