LOUDOUN COUNTY, VA — A deputy with the Loudoun County Sheriff's Office last week completed specialized training through the Virginia Forensic Science Academy. Deputy 1st Class Brian Degear is the most recent Loudoun law enforcement official to graduate as part of the academy's 99th session.

The Virginia Forensic Science Academy is an intense 9-week school where students are evaluated by class performance, written tests, and application of recovery techniques. The course is taught by instructors from the Department of Forensic Science and provides crime scene investigators with advanced training to properly recognize, document, collect and preserve items of physical evidence found at crime scenes for laboratory examination.

Degear, a crime scene investigator with the Loudoun County Sheriff's Office, is the 12th member of the agency to graduate from the academy. Degear joined the sheriff’s office in 2007 as a patrol deputy, and became a member of the agency’s Crime Scene Investigations Unit in 2016.
