Man Seriously Injured By Gun In His Backpack: Police
In Sterling, a man was seriously injured as he rummaged through his backpack and a gun accidentally discharged.
STERLING, VA — A man was seriously injured in Sterling Sunday night when a gun in his backpack accidentally discharged, according to the Loudoun County Sheriff's Office. The man was moving items inside the backpack, while he was in a car in the 100 block of E. Charlotte Street in Sterling, when the gun discharged and struck him.
A friend drove the injured man to Inova Loudoun Hospital in Lansdowne. At 8:45 p.m. Sunday, Loudoun County sheriff deputies went to the hospital in response to a report of a victim with a gunshot wound. The man sustained serioius injuries from the gunshot but is expected to survive, according to the sheriff's department.
Charges in the case, described as an unintentional discharge of a firearm, are pending, the sheriff's office said.
