Man Takes Woman's Phone, Assaults Her At Basketball Game: Police

STERLING, VA — A spectator at a youth basketball game in Sterling allegedly assaulted a woman Saturday morning after taking her cell phone, according to the Loudoun County Sheriff's Office.

Deputies arrived at the basketball game in the 46000 block of E. Frederick Drive in Sterling around 10:40 a.m. in response to a report of an assault. The incident stemmed from words being exchanged by spectators during a youth basketball game, the sheriff's office said. The victim reportedly started videotaping a man and a woman who witnesses said were making threatening comments.

The man noticed he was being videotaped and took the cell phone from the woman who was filming his behavior, according to the LCSO. The man left the stands with the victim’s cell phone. The woman reported that the man then assaulted her and pushed her downward, the sheriff's office said.

This case remains under investigation, according to the LCSO. Anyone with information about the incident can call the LCSO at 703-777-1021. Callers wishing to remain anonymous can submit a tip through the Loudoun County Sheriff's Office app.
