Pickup Truck Drives Off Second Level of Parking Garage

Vehicle's driver sustains minor injuries, say Leesburg police.

The Leesburg Police Department is investigating a single-vehicle crash that occurred at about 1:17 p.m. at the town’s parking garage at 25 West Market St.

A 1994 Ford Ranger pickup truck was being driven at a high rate of speed on the second level of the parking deck and drove over a curb, police said. The truck crashed through a metal barricade and brick façade before finally coming to rest on top of two unoccupied picnic benches on the Town Green.

The driver of the vehicle, Rattan J. Bhatia, 85, of Hillsboro, has been charged with reckless driving, police said. He was the sole occupant of the truck and sustained minor injuries.
