Police: DUI Driver Seriously Injured in Wrong-Way Wreck

Suspect allegedly struck several cars as he drove through an intersection and headed the wrong way down a stretch of Broadlands Blvd.

The driver in a DUI wreck Thursday afternoon is in serious condition after striking several cars as he drove down the wrong way on the road, according to Loudoun County Sheriff’s Office.

Rodrigo A Diaz-Requeno, 36, of Herndon, is charged with DUI and could face additional charges as the investigation continues. He is in serious condition at Inova Fairfax.

At 3:30 p.m. on Thursday, officers responded to the area of Broadlands Blvd. and Old Wood Way regarding a car crash and suspected DUI.

Diaz-Requeno was allegedly driving a 2006 Nissan Altima when he sped through an intersection on Chickacoan Trial Drive, disregarding a stop sign. His car reportedly struck another vehicle in the intersection.

Diaz-Requeno continued driving, heading east in the westbound lanes of Broadlands Boulevard. One motorist was able to avoid his vehicle, but Diaz-Requeno struck two other vehicles head-on: a 2012 Toyota Highlander and a Toyota Sienna Minivan.

Both vehicles were driven by Ashburn women and both had children inside. Minor injuries were reported.
