Redskins Recognize Pierce

Briar Woods coach honored after snapping Broad Run's streak

The Washington Redskins selected Briar Woods head football coach Charlie Pierce as the Redskins High School Coach of the Week for the week of Oct. 4.

The honor came after Pierce led the Falcons (5-2, 3-0 in district) to an upset victory over Broad Run, who entered the game riding a 33-game winning streak. The Falcons currently hold sole possession of first place in the Dulles District.

The Redskins High School Coach of the Week program recognizes and rewards excellence in high school football coaching.  Every week this season the Redskins will select one area coach as their Coach of the Week based on the coach's continuing commitment toward promoting youth football, developing motivated student-athletes, the coach's community involvement and overall team performance and record.  Pierce is the first Loudoun County coach honored this season.

The Falcons have exhibited these characteristics both on and off the field. This Thanksgiving, Pierce's players will assist with food distribution at a local food bank for neighbors in need during the holiday season. The team also is actively involved in preschool and elementary school reading programs.

The honor includes a $1,000 donation from the NFL Youth Football Fund to the football program and a framed certificate signed by NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell, Redskins Head Coach Mike Shanahan and Redskins General Manager Bruce Allen.
