LOUDOUN COUNTY, VA — A registered sex offender from Herndon was arrested after he was accused of having "sexual contact" with a child in Sterling in September, the Loudoun County Sheriff's Office said.

Authorities did not provide any details about the victim, including his age.

The suspect, who police identified as 69-year-old Daniel Sutton, was arrested on Wednesday. He is charged with transporting a minor for the purpose of an illicit sex act and contributing to the delinquency of a minor. He is being held without bond at the Loudoun County Adult Detention Center.

The incident occurred on Sept. 17 and was reported to the sheriff's office on Oct. 3, authorities said. The victim told detectives that he met Sutton online and they arranged to meet in person. Sutton drove to the child's home, picked him up, and took him to the Algonkian Regional Park in Sterling. "Sexual contact" occurred at the park, police said. The sheriff's office did not provide any specifics about the nature of the contact.

Detectives arrested Sutton at his home in Herndon on Wednesday morning.

Sutton initially registered as a sex offender in 2006. He has been convicted of several offenses involving children in Fairfax County. In 2003, he was convicted of using a communication system to contact a minor.

In 2012, Sutton was convicted of three counts of possessing child pornography, according to public records.
