Rock Ridge High School standout earns Student Leader status
Phoenix Rising: Riya Maheshwari earns spot with exclusive summer internship run Bank of America and YMCA of Metropolitan Washington

In May, Rock Ridge High School student Riya Maheshwari learned that she had been selected to the team of Bank of America Student Leaders® for 2019, one of just 225 high school students nationwide to be chosen for the honor.
Her reward is her active participation in a summer-long educational program, beginning with a national Student Leadership Summit to be held in Washington, D.C., in early July. The Summit, to be attended by Bank of America CEO Brian Moynihan and numerous other dignitaries, kicks off a full course of leadership-based activities and events for the high schoolers, including events on Capitol Hill, at the Holocaust Museum, and with the American Red Cross.
Miss Maheshwari is one of just five 2019 Student Leaders to hail from the Washington, D.C. region, and the only Student Leader from Loudoun County. She earned a spot in the exclusive internship program due to her leadership within Rock Ridge, including as a Vice President of the school’s DECA chapter, and the leader of its PASTA (Peers and Students Take Action) chapter.

Miss Maheshwari hails from Brampton, Ont., and relocated to Ashburn prior to starting high school at Rock Ridge. She was inspired to take on leadership roles upon attending a Women’s Leadership Conference in South Africa, and saw how women could affect real change in their communities regardless of economic conditions.
