Santa's Elves at Ashby Ponds Donate Toys for Loudoun Children

(Ashburn, Va.) - For the sixth consecutive holiday season, resident Al Beyer has coordinated the annual Toys for Tots collection at Ashby Ponds. This year, resident “elves” at Ashby Ponds donated 13 large bags of toys for the program, equating to about 500 toys. Additionally, 20 residents made monetary donations to the program.

“As was the case during prior years, our residents’ generosity in helping ensure no Loudoun County child experiences Christmas without receiving a gift was amazing and heart-warming,” said Beyer. “The two collection boxes at Ashby Ponds were repeatedly filled with a vast variety of toys.”

The donated toys from Ashby Ponds were taken to a nearby Security Storage facility, which served as the local consolidation point. The facility generously provided an entire storage shed just for Ashby Ponds Toys for Tots donations.

Nationally, the Toys for Tots program is sponsored by the U.S. Marine Corps Reserve. In Loudoun County, where Ashby Ponds is located, the program operates under the auspices of Virginia’s Marine Corps League Detachment 1205. Beyer volunteers with The Detachment to help collect, sort, and deliver donated toys during the holiday season.

According to The Detachment’s website, in 2013, over 300 volunteers joined in the effort to help distribute over 24,000 toys, 900 books, and 3,400 stocking stuffers to children in Loudoun for the holidays.
