6,000 Acres Searched As Hunt For Missing Loudoun Senior Continues Into 2nd Week: LCSO

LOUDOUN COUNTY, VA – The Loudoun County Sheriff’s Office is reminding residents that the search for 81-year-old Carolyn Taylor remains active.

Taylor is believed to have left her residence in the Purcellville area on foot on Sunday, Aug. 23, at approximately 10:30 a.m. She was last seen in the area of Foundry Road and Hughesville Road. Virginia State Police issued a Senior Alert for Taylor on behalf of the sheriff’s office at around 8:30 p.m. Sunday.

Taylor is known to walk along local roadways, wooded areas and fields and to sometimes nap outdoors.

Loudoun County deputies ask that county residents continue to check their property, including sheds, outbuildings, and vehicles, as well as anywhere someone might seek shelter. They also ask residents to continue to review any security, doorbell or wildlife camera footage they might have.

The sheriff’s office stresses that it’s not only sightings of Taylor that could be significant: anything that looks out of place or not how it was left could provide a clue.

According to the sheriff’s office, since Taylor was reported missing, LCSO Search and Rescue personnel have conducted extensive searches using multiple specialized resources, including helicopters, drones and all-terrain vehicles. They have used bloodhounds and other scent-specific working dog teams, as well as human ground search teams, and say they have been helped by numerous public and private groups in Virginia and Maryland.

To date, between 5,500 and 6,000 acres have been searched on foot, the sheriff’s office reports, with many search areas covered multiple times.
