Spring Expected To Arrive With Snow Friday

Spring officially arrives Friday at 6:45 p.m., but a final blast of winter is in the forecast for Northern Virginia.

The National Weather Service has issued a winter weather advisory for parts of Northern Virginia and the Washington area. The advisory is in effect through friday afternoon.

The weather service is forecasting a wintry mix of rain and snow, with a low of 32 degrees tonight and a 70 percent chance of rain between midnight and 3 a.m., then rain and snow likely.

This becomes a 90 percent chance of snow Friday, the weather service says, though it projects less than an inch. Snow is projected before 9 a.m., then rain and snow between 9 a.m. and 3 p.m., then rain after that.

Temperatures are expected to be hovering near freezing Friday morning in the Washington area, reaching up to 39 degrees, according to the weather service.

Those areas that could see snow are mainly Loudoun County and western Fairfax County, likely between 4-8 a.m. Friday, according to a National Weather Service spokesman.

The Weather Channel is predicting a 100 percent chance of a rain/snow mix for Northern Virginia.
