LOUDOUN COUNTY, VA — A teenage boy was arrested on Wednesday in connection with a bomb threat at Potomac Falls High School, the Loudoun County Sheriff's Office announced. Authorities said the boy was responsible for the emailed bomb threats.

The sheriff's office did not identify the boy by name. Officials also did not state his exact age, though they did describe him as a juvenile who is a student at Potomac Falls High School.

After school officials notified authorities of the threats, the building was evacuated according to the school system's safety protocol. Students were also dismissed early as authorities investigated the threat.

Multiple agencies searched the facility, including Loudoun County Fire Marshal’s Office, the Fairfax County Police Department, the Frederick County (Virginia) Fire Marshal’s Office, the Federal Emergency Management Mount Weather Police Department, the Central Intelligence Agency (CIA), and the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives. None of the investigators found anything suspicious, authorities said.

The boy is charged with three counts of threats to bomb. He is being held at the Loudoun County Juvenile Detention Center, authorities said.

The sheriff's office said there would be an increased law enforcement presence at Potomac Falls High School on Thursday out of an abundance of caution.
