Update: Suspect Arrested In Maryland After Ashburn Assault: Police
Police in Maryland arrested a man who was wanted in connection with an Ashburn assault that left a man with life-threatening injuries.

ASHBURN, VA — Police have arrested a suspect in Maryland in connection with an assault that occurred in Ashburn on Sunday, according to the Loudoun County Sheriff's Office.
Authorities said the victim was still in critical condition at the hospital on Monday.

On Monday morning, deputies with the Frederick County and Loudoun County Sheriff's Offices arrested Ever Cruz, a 24-year-old man from Ashburn, in connection with the assault. Investigators in Loudoun County had identified Cruz as a suspect and obtained a warrant for his arrest.
Cruz is charged with one count of aggravated malicious wounding. He is being held without bond at the Frederick County Adult Detention Center pending extradition to Virginia.

If convicted, Cruz could face up to life in prison, based on Virginia's sentencing guidelines.
"The Loudoun County Sheriff’s Office would like to thank the Frederick County Sheriff’s Office for their efforts in apprehending Ever Cruz and for assisting with the subsequent search warrant,” Sheriff Mike Chapman said in a news release.
Around 3 a.m. on Sunday, deputies learned about an injured person in the 45100 block of Waterpointe Terrace. When deputies arrived in the area, they found that the victim had been assaulted and had life-threatening injuries, according to the police report.
The victim, who police only identified as a male, was taken to a nearby hospital. The sheriff's office has not provided any further updates about his condition.
