Woman Seriously Injured After Exiting Moving SUV Driven By Drunk Driver: Police

LOUDOUN COUNTY, VA — A woman suffered life-threatening injuries when she exited a moving SUV on Wednesday evening in Chantilly, according to the Loudoun County Sheriff's Office. The woman, who has not been publicly identified, is still receiving treatment for her injuries at a local hospital.

The incident occurred around 8:15 p.m. on Wednesday. When deputies arrived on the scene, they determined the driver of the vehicle was under the influence of alcohol, according to the police report.

Authorities identified the driver as Ajit Jadhav, a 47-year-old man from Chantilly. He was charged with DWI, the Loudoun County Sheriff's Office said. Jadhav was taken to the Loudoun County Adult Detention Center, where he awaits a bond hearing.

The sheriff's office did not have many details available. They said the SUV was a 2020 Land Rover Range Rover, and the incident is still being investigated.

Virginia's drunken driving laws are among the harshest in the nation, the Department of Motor Vehicles said. If a driver is convicted for a first DUI offense, the minimum punishment includes a $250 fine and a revocation of the driver's license for one year. A DUI conviction can also require the installation of an ignition interlock device.
