• Bedford Get Together continues work on Elk's Home Christmas display (pmg-va.com) — Bedford volunteers are busy refurbishing the beloved Elk's Home Christmas display and are asking local residents to pitch in with art, carpentry, and hauling help. Weekly Sunday work sessions are underway, with extra workdays planned and more official work times coming in October, giving Bedford neighbors many chances to help refresh this holiday tradition.
• Sheriff's office breaks ground on new addition (pmg-va.com) — Bedford County is moving forward with an $8 million, 15,000-square-foot expansion of the Sheriff's Office on Falling Creek Road, bringing most staff under one roof and adding a new Emergency Operations Center. Local leaders say the project, helped by a $1 million federal grant, will replace aging trailers and give deputies, dispatchers, and residents a more functional, modern public safety hub.
• Stray kitten in Bedford County tests positive for rabies, 3 people getting treatment (wset.com) — A stray kitten found near Willowridge Drive in Thaxton has tested positive for rabies, and three exposed people are receiving preventive treatment, prompting a warning for Bedford County residents. Health officials urge caution around stray animals, immediate reporting of bites or scratches, and strict compliance with Virginia's rabies vaccination requirements for dogs and cats.
