1. Hometown Adventures: Montgomery County (wdbj7.com) — Blacksburg's regional tourism director is rolling out a fall campaign aimed at getting residents and visitors to spend full weekends enjoying local events, Virginia Tech traditions, and New River Valley attractions. Expect a mix of festivals, dining, breweries, wineries, and outdoor recreation across Blacksburg, Christiansburg, and Montgomery County, including the Gilmore Girls Autumn Festival in downtown Christiansburg.
2. Grubb, William Boyd (nrvnews.com) — Blacksburg is saying goodbye to William Boyd Grubb, a lifelong farmer and builder whose work shaped fences, bridges, barns, and roadways throughout the New River Valley. Family and friends can gather for a memorial service September 30 at McCoy Funeral Home, where his sons and extended family will honor his legacy of hard work and mentorship.
3. Sevebeck, William Roger (nrvnews.com) — Blacksburg is mourning longtime resident William Roger Sevebeck, an engineer, craftsman, and avid outdoorsman whose life of service touched many in the New River Valley. A celebration of his life will be held October 9 at Blacksburg Christian Fellowship, where friends and neighbors can honor his faith, family devotion, and community contributions.
4. TJC Completes Acquisition Of Luna Innovations For $1.39 Per Share (pulse2.com) — A major employer headquartered in Blacksburg, Luna Innovations, has just been taken private in a cash acquisition by investment firm TJC, ending its public trading. The deal gives Luna new financial backing to expand its fiber-optic sensing technologies across industries like data centers, aerospace, defense, and energy, while keeping its leadership team in place.
