Virginia Extension specialists say the disease is spreading across the state and urge local farmers to learn the symptoms, monitor fields carefully this fall, and contact their Extension office quickly if they see suspicious leaf spots.
• Smartphone app deployed for Clarksville downtown development (sovanow.com) — Blackstone is one of several Southern Virginia towns tapped for the BOOMS pilot, a smartphone-based tool that maps downtown buildings, vacancies, and potential redevelopment sites. Consultants are using the app to help communities like Blackstone compete for grants, attract developers, and plan new housing, retail, and mixed-use projects that could strengthen local business districts over the next few years.
